Technical Overview

The technology behind Manaiakalani includes:

A community-wide, high-speed WIFI network to provide direct access throughout the neighborhood
High-speed Internet access through the KAREN network (education)
Student laptop/netbook devices, available to all students in the cluster
Google Apps as the underlying messaging & collaboration platform
Admin extensions to Google Apps to simplify ongoing management
Web filtering solution (Watchdog)

Some of the components, like Google Apps, or Watchdog's Web filtering, will be used as-is. The others are described in more detail in other pages on this site.
